A wheel-thrown ceramic bowl from L’Atelier Dieulefit, attributed to Jacques Pouchain, with an incised frieze of elongated leaf forms alternating with vertical lines. The deep, gently flaring shape retains visible throwing rings beneath a reduction-fired glaze that shifts from pale cream and chocolate to coffee and chestnut tones.
Jacques Pouchain was a French painter and ceramic artist who founded L’Atelier Dieulefit, in 1959. Located in the Drôme region of southern France, his workshop produced both functional pottery and sculptural ceramics, often incorporating incised patterns and simplified natural forms. This bowl bears the incised “L’Atelier Dieulefit” workshop mark beneath the base.
The surface changes considerably as the bowl is turned. Pale passages reveal the dark linear decoration clearly, while deeper brown areas give the same pattern a softer, more atmospheric appearance. Glaze trails continue into the interior, where the concentric throwing rings remain visible. The bowl is functional and food safe.
