Low, wide three-seater sofa in solid elm and leather, France, 1960s-70s, by Maison Regain. It seats three to four people on an architectural frame with generous proportions. The broad side panels double as legs and carry the seat on two curved rails. The construction stays visible and lets the materials speak for themselves.
The leather lies loosely over the frame and falls in deep folds, a soft, organic counterweight to the strict, graphic line of the wood. The pairing of heavy timber and supple leather recalls the work of Brazilian designer Percival Lafer. Pale golden elm and warm chestnut-brown leather, with a beautiful patina.
