Measuring an impressive 22 inches in length, this dramatic ceramic sculpture embodies the expressive, biomorphic forms and bold abstraction associated with mid-century modernism.

The elongated, sensuous figure features exaggerated anatomical forms, a dramatically arched silhouette, and beautifully simplified facial details. Its deep charcoal-black finish has a subtle lustre that accentuates the sculpture’s fluid contours and interplay of light and shadow.

Substantial in weight yet hollow in construction, the sculpture displays the distinctive character of hand-finished ceramic. Its commanding proportions and compelling silhouette make it an exceptional statement piece for a console, mantel, pedestal, or artfully curated interior.

Manuel Felguérez (1928–2020) was a pioneering figure in Mexican modern art and a leading member of the country’s influential Generación de la Ruptura (Breakaway Generation), which challenged the dominance of traditional Mexican muralism. Internationally recognized for his innovative abstract paintings and sculptures, Felguérez explored the relationship between geometry, organic form, and material. His work is represented in major museum collections, including the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, and he remains an important figure in 20th-century Latin American art.

A sophisticated and visually arresting example of modernist figural sculpture, equally at home among collectible 20th-century furnishings, contemporary art, and thoughtfully layered interiors. See less
