Heavy black outlines enclose this jazz club scene the way leading holds stained glass, setting off saturated fields of orange, red and green in a manner close to cloisonné. A saxophonist, a drummer and a singer at the microphone fill the upper register above a striped stage. A row of lilac footlights divides them from a silhouetted audience below, one figure raising an arm toward the band. The outlines are built up in relief above the textured acrylic, giving the surface a tactile, almost enameled quality.
Katie Lin, born in Taiwan and based in New Orleans, is a Jackson Square artist whose work centers on music and the city’s jazz culture. The piece is signed “Katie Lin” vertically at lower left, in the same raised black line. It is undated. Stylistically it appears to be an earlier work of hers, likely from the early 2000s.
Acrylic on canvas, gallery-wrapped on a wood stretcher with black-painted edges, ready to hang on a wire hanger. The canvas measures 12 x 24 inches. Photographs were white-balanced to a gray card under daylight-balanced lighting; colors may display slightly differently across screens.

The canvas is taut on its stretcher, with no paint loss, cracking or abrasion to the image. The black-painted edges are intact. On the verso, the raw canvas shows light, even toning, and the white tacking margins have some black paint smears from the edge painting. The stretcher bars have minor age staining. The picture wire and eye screws are secure. less
