Unique Japanese Meiji Obi/Kimono/clothing double-door or Ryobiraki Tansu Chest. This tansu is adorned with striking metalwork that provide a symmetrical pattern. This tansu is a two-pieces, stackable-style total unit or can be placed side by side or in separate areas. Each unit measurements is the same of 35 inches by 15 inches by 19 inches high. When stacked together, height is 38 inches total.
The wood used is paulownia and is in reasonably good condition. The doors at the top are worn but can be closed with the top key, provided, to keep the top covers closed. The metalwork is extensive, as can be seen in the photos.
Inside the top two draw piece is another "pin" which can be used to keep the left side outside door closed, see photo. All other locks on drawers are open. The two sections are stacked and there are hinges on the sides to make them steady although hard to close.
This tansu was said to be used for storage of obi and kimono in the past but can be used for storage of current clothing items or obi or kimonos. Draws are large and easy to use.
