The sculpture is finished in a layered polychrome patina. Warm bronze tones define the boy’s face, arms and legs, while his shirt and shorts are highlighted in a soft verdigris-green finish. The dog is rendered in darker brown and blackened bronze tones.

The work belongs to a long tradition of genre sculpture—figurative works depicting recognizable scenes from everyday life. Here, the subject is distinctly nostalgic: childhood play, imagination, companionship and the excitement of sending a toy airplane into flight.

The piece has a narrative quality that makes it appealing for a family room, library, office, children’s space, garden room or collected interior. Also makes a memorable gift for an aviation enthusiast, dog lover or collector of figurative bronze. See less
