An uncommon coordinated ensemble of three substantial, hand-sculpted and hand-painted ceramic architectural reliefs, bringing the romance of flowering doorways, secluded gardens, and ornamental façades into the interior.
Each composition offers its own miniature architectural world: an elaborate entrance crowned by a sweeping pediment, a balcony façade enveloped in flowering vines, and a garden gate opening onto a softly colored path. Their shared palette of chalky ivory, salmon pink, muted blue, lavender, and leafy green creates a cohesive arrangement, while their contrasting silhouettes give the group movement and visual variety.
The workmanship rewards close inspection. Rounded columns, projecting steps, curved moldings, balcony balusters, and recessed doors and windows establish successive layers of depth. Densely modeled flowers and foliage add further dimension, with curled leaves and clustered blossoms extending forward from the architectural backgrounds. Hand-painted highlights and shaded recesses accentuate the sculptural surfaces.
THE THREE COMPOSITIONS
The Ornamental Doorway
A blue-lavender paneled door beneath a curved transom, framed by ivory pilasters and an elaborate Baroque-inspired pediment with a central floral medallion. A wall lantern, flowering pot, and projecting steps complete the scene. An artist’s signature appears along the lower step.
The Flowering Balcony Façade
A salmon-colored façade with a shuttered upper window, modeled balustrade, rounded columns, and an arched divided-light entrance. Flowering greenery spills across the balcony and cascades down the irregular right-hand edge, giving this relief a particularly lush sculptural profile.
The Garden Gate
An angled pale gate between capped posts and pointed pickets, opening onto a salmon-colored path. Raised flower beds frame the entrance, combining blue, purple, red, and green accents. The receding path and angled gate introduce a sense of perspective within the ceramic composition.
FOR THE INTERIOR
The complete ensemble offers a distinctive focal point for an entry, breakfast room, garden room, or intimate sitting area. Arrange the three together on a quiet wall to emphasize their complementary proportions, or incorporate them into a collected display with botanical artwork, antique mirrors, and decorative ceramics.
Their softly weathered palette complements painted furniture, natural linen, floral textiles, and warm wood finishes. The ornamental architecture and garden imagery are especially suited to French country, English cottage, and layered traditional interiors.
MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Heavy ceramic reliefs with hand-sculpted architectural and botanical details, hand-painted and glazed surfaces, and individually contoured outlines. Reverse wire hanging arrangements are present on all three pieces.
SIGNATURE & DOCUMENTATION
The front-door relief bears an artist’s signature on its lower step; the name has not been conclusively identified. The accompanying estate catalog described the group as a collection of hand-painted and glazed ceramic architectural hanging plaques, artist signed.
Offered together as a coordinated set of three. Artist, production date, and country of manufacture remain unidentified.
DIMENSIONS
Estate-catalog measurements: approximately 10″ H × 5½″ W × 1½″ D.
The three reliefs have different proportions; these catalog measurements should not be understood as the individual dimensions of every piece. Depth refers to overall projection.
