Rectangular extendable table in the louis xv style, made of oak, dating from around 1960–1970. The curved frame, the slender cabriole legs, and the multi-profiled edge of the tabletop create a balanced overall impression, in which the calm herringbone pattern of the tabletop and the colored frame are clearly contrasted. Historical context: the design language of the louis xv, developed in 18th-century france, was frequently revived in the 19th and 20th centuries and mass-produced in simplified, country-style versions. Dining tables of this type were widespread in the post-war decades and were primarily found in the dining rooms and kitchen-diners of middle-class households. The principle of extension leaves stored beneath the main tabletop has been known since the 16th century. It allowed a table to remain compact for everyday use and to be extended for larger gatherings without separate extension leaves.
features: two integrated extension leaves beneath the main tabletop extend the table length from 150 cm to up to 240 cm without the need for additional storage. The frame features a carved shell motif with acanthus tendrils along its length and is curved on all sides. Design: the design follows the louis xv style in its later, more refined form. Key features include the curved cabriole legs, which terminate in volute feet on faceted plinths, the flowing lines of the frame, and the central shell ornament, reminiscent of rocaille. The tabletop is framed by a surrounding border and displays a herringbone pattern in oak on the inside. The contrast between the natural wood tabletop and the lacquered frame gives the piece a clearly structured appearance.
dimensions: h 74 × w 150 (extended to 240) × d 90 cm; extension leaves: 2 × 45 cm; material and condition: oak; tabletop with herringbone pattern and multi-profiled edge, frame lacquered in sage green. Professionally inspected and refurbished by kastellan: cleaned, treated appropriately for the material, structurally checked, and stable and functionally sound. The tabletop is sealed and as durable as a kitchen worktop.
