Historic wrought-iron wall bracket (Ausleger), of the kind used as a tavern or trade sign.
The arm is forged in open scrollwork: large C-scrolls and S-scrolls of iron, with applied acanthus leaves, flower heads and trailing stems, partly gilt.
At the wall plate a gilt spiral wrap rises to a crown finial. The arm then sweeps outward and ends in a gilt bird’s head (eagle type) from which a sign is hung on a short link.
The hanging sign is a cut-out rearing horse set in a wreath of oak leaves and small flowers, tied with a gilt ribbon. The horse is the emblem of the piece.
A historic wrought-iron wall bracket (Ausleger) of the kind that still marks the shops of the Getreidegasse in Salzburg: a forged arm fixed to the façade, carrying a hanging trade sign over the street.
18th century, restored
Length 170 cm (66.9 in), height 120 cm (47.2 in).
