A chartreuse bloom spreads ruffled petals in the upper corner, bright and textured as moss in moonlight. Across from it, a pale white arch rises with a soft ridged rim, like a doorway lit from within. Below, clusters of deep green and frosted white gather in rounded mounds, while a rusty coral trail winds up through the middle, speckled and porous, like a garden path after dark. Fine spray drifts over the cool blue ground. Colangelo layered these forms and waited, and the textures emerged as they dried, each a small discovery. A nocturnal chapter of her COSMOS series, it feels hushed and enchanted, a secret garden that opens only after everyone else is asleep.

A little evening magic for a bedroom, a garden room or a reading nook. Deep navy or sage walls, potted plants, glazed ceramics and a soft lamp for night reading suit it beautifully. Placed near a window, it keeps the outdoors close long after the sun goes down.

Mixed media on panel, 12 x 12 in (30.5 x 30.5 cm).

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: “More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it.”
