Near its base, the yellow warms into a blush of peach and rose, catching the first color of sunrise. Around it, the night is still lifting: deep navy on the left, marbled with lilac and teal swirls, and a soft olive haze rising on the right like mist burning off a field. Colangelo released the yellow and let it spread wide, drying into its own soft contours and tiny bubbles. The warmest of the Aubade panels in her TERRAIN series, it glows with quiet gratitude for light returning after a long night.

It is a sweet choice for a bedroom or dressing area, where the palette feels personal. Plaster or soft sage walls suit it, along with a ceramic lamp and a vase of fresh peonies. Beside the other Aubade panels, it adds a softer note to a row on one wall.

Mixed media on canvas, 10 x 10 in (25.4 x 25.4 cm).

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: “More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it.”
