Thin ribbons of white trace their crests, and tiny flecks of cobalt and lilac sparkle in the troughs, as if light had been caught and kept. The paint is thick and swept, full of ridges, soft pits and small pockets where colors swirl together. Colangelo moved the paint in long, flowing passes and let it mingle and settle in its own rhythm, never smoothing away the surprises. In her TERRAIN series, it captures a calm morning at the water's edge, unhurried and at home.

It belongs where the day begins and ends, on a nightstand or a narrow bedroom wall. Pale wood, crisp cotton bedding and a small bowl of sea glass feel natural beside it, and gray-blue walls, rattan and brushed nickel carry the coastal note. It also suits a marble bathroom filled with daylight.

Mixed media on canvas, 8 x 8 in (20.3 x 20.3 cm).

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: “More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it.”
