Below, a pale blue wave sweeps in from the right, streaked with fine teal lines, and comes to rest on a dark, earthy stone half wrapped in silver. Tiny pearls of white float in between, and a silver curl turns on the left like a thought just forming. Colangelo layered spray, pours and textured silver with no plan, letting each mark answer the one before. One of her COSMOS works, it finds small wonders tucked inside an ordinary afternoon.

It settles well on a bookshelf, a windowsill or a small wall near the front door. Soft gray walls, pewter and weathered driftwood echo its cool tones, and a linen runner or a small ceramic dish completes the scene. In a bathroom with chrome and tile, the textured surface picks up shifting daylight.

Mixed media on panel, 10 x 10 in (25.4 x 25.4 cm).

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: “More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it.”
