An interlocking arrangement of ivory and ochre shapes forms the face, while dark hair and an oversized pale collar establish the figure’s distinctive character.

The warm terracotta background contrasts with muted green clothing and deep brown accents. Without explicitly drawn facial features, the portrait conveys its presence through colour, posture and the balance of geometric forms.

The title evokes the complementary relationship between the two sides of the face. Layered oil paint and visible palette knife marks bring texture and variation to the simplified composition.

Sophie Dumont lives and works in France (Normandy).
