Curtis's The North American Indian. Chemehuevi House on Colorado River shows a brush-covered house with a plank doorway, its walls thatched with brush and grown over with vines and its base banked with earth, set among trees and tall grass. The Chemehuevi, a Southern Paiute people, lived along the lower Colorado River. Curtis made the photograph in 1924, and it was published in 1926 in Volume 15, which covers the Southern California Shoshoneans, the Diegueños, the Plateau Shoshoneans and the Washo.
