A pencil signed and numbered limited edition print of Carl Brenders' "Narrow Escape - Chipmunk," released by Mill Pond Press in February 1993. An eastern chipmunk scrambles up the deeply furrowed bark of a tree trunk, front paws spread wide and eye alert, its striped coat and bushy tail painted hair by hair against bark patched with pale lichen.
Offset lithograph printed by Classic Art on museum quality, acid-free, pH neutral coated paper, published from Brenders' 1992 mixed media painting on illustration board. Pencil signed by the artist at lower right and numbered 1405/1750 at lower left, with the plate signature "© C Brenders 92" in the image. The margin carries the title and the Latin name, Tamias striatus. The edition was 1,750 signed and numbered prints plus 76 artist's proofs.
Carl Brenders was born in 1937 near Antwerp, Belgium, and studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Antwerp and later in Berchem. He illustrated more than 20 books in the series The Secret Life of Animals, and his work has been shown regularly in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's "Birds in Art" exhibition and in its 1987 "Wildlife in Art" show.
Comes with the original Mill Pond Press folder with its silver "20 Years of Fine Art" seal and edition label, the certificate of authenticity and a print care leaflet.
