A pencil signed and numbered limited edition print of Daniel Smith's "Armada," released by Mill Pond Press in March 1992. A pod of orcas glides through glassy water at dusk, the tall dorsal fin of a bull rising at its center, past a rocky, forested headland with low islands in the distance. The peach and blue evening sky is mirrored in the water, gulls circle the headland, and one whale sends up a spout of mist near the shore. In his notes on the painting, Smith wrote that he wanted the whales to glide through without breaking the calm, and that it is more a painting of a setting and a mood than a painting of orcas.
Offset lithograph printed by Litho-Krome Company on all-rag, acid-free, pH neutral paper, published from Smith's 1992 acrylic painting on masonite. Pencil signed "Daniel Smith" at lower right and numbered 135/950 at lower left, with the plate signature "Smith ©92" in the image. The margin carries the title. The edition was 950 signed and numbered prints plus 76 artist's proofs.
