museum-scale vintage Tonalá folk art pottery tripod floor planter. Standing a full 2 feet tall, this investment-grade statement piece is an exceptionally rare find. While most vintage Mexican burnished pottery consists of small tabletop accents, a vessel of this massive scale represents an elite level of artisan craftsmanship and high-risk kiln firing.
The planter is entirely hand-formed and intricately hand-painted with a vibrant, high-detail palette. It features classic Flor de Tonalá botanical motifs alongside stunningly rendered exotic birds (including a signature parrot and waterfowl) wrapped densely around the entire bulbous body. The pot is anchored by three integrated structural feet and features two heavy-duty decorative loop handles.
With its incredible visual presence, this masterfully crafted ceramic vessel makes a magnificent focal piece for an entryway, sunroom, hearth, or covered southwestern-style patio.
Dimensions
Height: 24 inches (2 feet)
Maximum Width (Handle to Handle): 20.4 inches (1.7 feet)
Belly Diameter (Pot Body): 14.4 inches (1.2 feet)
Condition
Very good vintage condition overall with gorgeous, authentic character. The hand-painted imagery remains incredibly vibrant with beautiful, age-appropriate finish variations. The interior shows natural signs of potting soil/moisture use from its history as a functional planter. Please note: There is a minor hairline crack on one of the loop handles that has been previously repaired/stabilized (see close-up photo). It remains structurally sound for display. The body and three weight-bearing tripod feet are heavy, solid, and free of any major chips or cracks.
