A classic of East German modernism: the impressive Type 602/G highboard in elegant ash, designed by the influential Bauhaus student Franz Ehrlich and manufactured in the renowned Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. The iconic 602 series exemplifies the masterful symbiosis of functional simplicity, clear symmetry, and timeless mid-century perfection. The furniture's architecture impresses with a well-conceived combination of closed cabinet compartments, elegant glass elements, and smooth-running drawers. A very special highlight is hidden inside: the integrated drawer inserts are made of red plastic. Originally, these were made of solid wood, but in the early 1960s, production was switched to plastic drawers. These were usually beige or black, unlike this red version. Furthermore, fragments of the original Hellerau trademark, made of paper, are preserved on the back, attesting to the piece's historical provenance. The light, beautifully grained ash wood lends the impressive cabinet a warm, inviting, and timelessly modern appeal. The glass panels in the upper section move smoothly, and the concealed cabinet compartments offer ample, practical storage space for everyday items. We have professionally restored this highboard: the surfaces have been carefully sanded, thoroughly cleaned, and finished. The piece is in a beautiful, authentic vintage condition with subtle, age-appropriate signs of wear that contribute to its genuine character.
