The clearly structured body on a high frame with spiral legs and the recessed top with a beveled mirror create a balanced, cohesive overall impression.

Historical context: In early 20th-century English homes, the sideboard was a standard piece of dining room furniture, used for storing dishes, cutlery, and linens, as well as for serving food. The revival of 17th-century forms was widespread at this time and reflected the desire of middle-class households for solid, traditional furniture made of local oak. Such pieces were often produced in workshops and furniture factories that combined machine-based pre-processing with hand-carved and molded work.

Features: The front rests on two turned spiral legs, while the rear supports are angular and connected to the front ones by a continuous base. Doors and drawers are articulated with applied, geometrically broken profile frames; the door panels are further embellished with carved diamond ornaments, and the upper section features an openwork acanthus crown.

Design: The design follows the Jacobean style with its emphasis on rectangular divisions, spiral legs, and applied profiles. Beaded moldings and ribbed strips frame panels and aprons, structuring the surface without cluttering it. The upper section, with its mirror, octagonal side panels, and turned knobs, echoes the order of the base and completes the composition.

Function: Formerly: a sideboard in the dining room for storing dishes and linens, as well as for serving. Today: a sideboard in the dining or living area, hallway or entryway furniture, or a console with a mirror in the entrance area.

Dimensions: Height 150 cm (body 101 cm) × Width 126 cm × Depth 51 cm. Material and condition: Oak, metal fittings (presumably brass), beveled mirror glass, key included. Well-preserved with age-related wear and an even patina; mirror glass shows age-related wear. Inspected, cleaned, treated appropriately, structurally checked, and stable and functional. See less
