An original Biedermeier drum cabinet of cylindrical form, crafted in Germany around 1820. The body is of nutwood with fine vertical fluting that emphasises the round silhouette, resting on a solid octagonal base with a moulded upper edge. A circular white marble top with soft grey veining is inset into the wide moulded rim.
A particular feature of this cabinet is the door, which opens fully on its original brass hinges and reveals the interior construction. Inside are wooden shelves and the original pine lining, showing the practical storage function typical of these pieces. The cabinet remains in very good original condition, with the surface and fittings consistent with its age.
Drum cabinets of this type were used in Biedermeier interiors both for storage and as pedestals for sculpture, clocks or decorative objects.
