An original 1973 abstract copper sculpture by American artist Harold 'Persico' Paris, signed and numbered 2/5 (from an edition of only five).
This Modernist composition features a rectangular copper form with an elegantly sculpted, undulating surface. Subtle protrusions and recessed circular forms create an intriguing sense of movement, while the rich copper-brown finish accentuates the sculpture's fluid contours and dimensional qualities.
The sculpture rests on a sleek, glossy black rectangular base, providing a dramatic contrast to the warm copper surface. Its restrained geometric presentation and organic sculptural elements embody the experimental aesthetic of 1970s American modernism.
Both minimalist and expressive, this distinctive work makes a sophisticated addition to a curated collection of modern art, sculpture, or vintage decorative objects. Its compact proportions make it particularly well suited for display on a console, bookshelf, desk, or coffee table.
Signed and dated 1973, edition 2 of 5.
About the Artist
Harold Persico Paris (1925–1979) was a significant figure in postwar American sculpture and printmaking, with an established museum and exhibition history. His work is represented in major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
His background is particularly relevant to this 1973 sculpture. Paris studied printmaking in New York and casting in Munich, received Guggenheim, Fulbright, and Louis Comfort Tiffany fellowships, and became a professor at the University of California, Berkeley in 1963. He helped develop bronze-casting facilities there and experimented extensively with metal, ceramics, plastics, and unconventional sculptural processes.

The copper surface retains its original aged appearance, with subtle patination, tonal variations, and minor surface marks characteristic of vintage metalwork. The black display base exhibits light surface wear and minor scratches from age and handling. The sculpture presents beautifully overall, with its warm copper finish and sculptural contours remaining visually striking. The copper has not been polished or refinished, preserving its existing surface character. less
