Its sprawling, elongated drawing anticipates the treatment that would soon become characteristic of slightly later American and German Sarouks, as well as Lilihan rugs. The rug is particularly compelling for the way it bridges several traditions at once: retaining elements of earlier Farahan weaving, reflecting the contemporary character of Mohajeran Sarouks, and foreshadowing the direction of later Sarouk production. Adding yet another individual flourish, the design omits the outermost minor border, with the composition instead terminating naturally within the original weave. The rug has not been reduced in size rather, this unusual border treatment appears to represent a deliberate new interpretation of a long-established weaving tradition. Colors and shades include: Dark navy blue, pomegranate red, deep blush, sky blue, ivory, beige, pale raspberry red, cream and more. Condition notes: Mostly even short pile across. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Fully secured sides and ends. Heavy wear to knot heads in one corner. Pile has recently been lightly washed and dusted, ready for in-home use Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand knotted Persian Mohajeran Sarouk rug mat made in Persia circa 1920's vintage.
