This is an elegant vintage rectangular tray, crafted from Zitan wood (purple sandalwood) and decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The tray features a rich, dark brown-black wood grain with a smooth, lustrous finish. The raised gallery edge is carved with openwork scroll motifs and accented with small, evenly spaced oval shell inlays. The center of the tray is adorned with a vibrant shell inlay scene depicting one bird perched on a stylized rockery amidst flowering plants, while another bird is depicted in mid-flight. The inlay is rendered in shimmering white, with delicate pale yellow and iridescent green accents.
This piece beautifully combines traditional Chinese woodcraft with delicate shell inlay, making it a perfect serving tray for tea or small items, or a striking decorative display piece on a coffee table or console.
