This is a beautifully detailed vintage rectangular tray, crafted from Zitan wood (purple sandalwood) and decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The tray features a rich, dark brown-black wood grain with a smooth, lustrous finish and a slightly raised gallery edge. The center of the tray is adorned with a vibrant shell inlay scene depicting a dragon and a phoenix flying amongst stylized clouds, flanking a central flaming pearl. The inlay is rendered in shimmering white with subtle, iridescent green and pink accents. The raised edges of the tray are carved with openwork scroll motifs and accented with small, evenly spaced round shell dots.
This piece beautifully combines traditional Chinese woodcraft with delicate shell inlay, making it a perfect serving tray for tea or small items, or a striking decorative display piece on a coffee table or console.
