This is a highly functional and beautifully decorated vintage wooden tray, crafted from rosewood (huali wood) with a rich, dark brown finish.
The tray features a square form with a raised, scalloped (undulating) gallery edge. The interior flat surface is adorned with an intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay depicting the classic Chinese motif of a deer and a crane beneath a pine tree, symbolizing longevity and good fortune. The shell inlay is rendered in iridescent white, with delicate green and purple accents on the leaves and birds.
The tray sits atop a base containing two pull-out drawers, providing hidden storage for small items. Each drawer front is decorated with additional shell inlay in the shape of small floral buds, and is fitted with a dark metal drop pull. This versatile piece is perfect for organizing a desk, serving tea, or as a striking decorative display on a coffee table or console.
