Pair of 19th Century French Turquoise Opaline Glass Ormolu Table Lamps
About the Maker
French opaline glass became highly fashionable during the 19th century, prized for its rich, opaque colors and elegant decorative forms. Particularly popular during the reign of Napoleon III, opaline glass was frequently embellished with delicate gilded designs and paired with ornate gilt-metal mounts. These decorative objects were produced for affluent European interiors and remain desirable for their vibrant colors, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
About the Pieces
An elegant pair of 19th-century French turquoise opaline glass table lamps featuring graceful baluster-form bodies adorned with gilded floral and foliate motifs. Each rests on a gilt-metal base with coordinating mounts and is fitted with a double-light assembly, decorative parchment-style shade with hand-painted gilt trim, and spherical crystal finial. The original glass displays minor age-related wear, including some loss to the gilded decoration, particularly around the necks. The lamps have been electrified with later wiring and fittings and are in good working condition. Accompanied by documentation from Cedric DuPont Antiques of West Palm Beach, Florida, where the pair was previously offered for $6,900. Dimensions: Each lamp measures approximately 35" H × 5.5" W × 5.5" D without shade. Shades measure approximately 17" W × 18" D × 11" H.
