Painted in the realistic military style popularized by master academic artist Édouard Detaille, the artwork displays exceptional attention to historical uniform accuracy and horse anatomy.
The piece is housed in its highly decorative, original 19th-century French gilt scrollwork and gesso frame, showcasing wonderful antique patina and period craftsmanship.

The verso of the wooden backing panel features an authentic, clear late-19th-century oval merchant ink stamp reading "Au Vieux Paris, Ameublements, Fernand Dehauet, Troyes." This rare regional framing and furnishing boutique mark provides excellent provenance, tracing the artwork directly back to a prominent decorative gallery operating in the historic city of Troyes in the Champagne region of France.
