About the Piece

Gallo (para Carifesta), dated 1985, is an original tempera and mixed-media painting on cardstock featuring a striking red rooster surrounded by expressive tropical foliage, exemplifying Rodríguez’s bold use of color, energetic linework, and distinctive modernist style. Signed and dated “Mariano 85” in the lower right, the painting is beautifully presented in an ornate gold-tone frame with contrasting blue matting, measuring 32" W x 40" H framed. In excellent condition, the work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity dated February 14, 2002, and signed by Dolores and Alejandro Rodríguez. The certificate also documents the painting’s reproduction in a July 22, 1985, Granma article by Ana María Radaelli and notes its inclusion in the artist’s catalogue raisonné then in preparation.
