This is a stunning, finely crafted vintage rectangular tray, made from Huanghuali wood (yellow rosewood) and decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The tray features a flat interior surrounded by a raised, beveled gallery edge. The rich, golden-brown wood displays a beautiful, natural "ghost face" (guilian) grain pattern and a warm, lustrous patina. The center of the tray is adorned with a vibrant, detailed inlay of birds and flowers. The scene depicts a pair of intricately detailed birds perched on a flowering branch, alongside a smaller bird in flight and colorful blossoms in shades of cream, red, and green. The corners of the tray are reinforced with decorative metal brackets.
This piece beautifully combines traditional Chinese woodcraft with delicate shell inlay, making it a perfect serving tray or a striking decorative display piece on a console or coffee table.
