A remarkable piece of authentic mid-century Americana, this solid wood postal cabinet was manufactured in 1963 by the Federal Equipment Company in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Stamped on the reverse as official "Property of Post Office Department," this cabinet predates the 1971 transition to the modern USPS, making it a rare historical artifact from the era of the Cabinet-level U.S. Post Office Department. 1963: This is the exact year of production, dating it right to the era of President John F. Kennedy's administration and the introduction of the ZIP code system by the Post Office Department.
It is a beautiful piece of mid-century Americana. It is solid wood rather than industrial steel sheet metal, original door and interior hardware, making it a rare piece.
