Carved from solid Kimachi stone, renowned for its fine texture, warm tone, and ability to age gracefully outdoors, this piece serves as an extraordinary focal point for classical Asian gardens, zen courtyards, estate landscapes, or serene poolside water features.
The lantern displays classic Japanese stone carving traditions, structured in multi-tiered sections:
Base (Jibachi / Kiso): A sturdy square stone foundation topped with beautifully carved double lotus flower petals (Renzan), providing balanced structural support and symbolic elegance.
Column (Sao): A smooth, cylindrical central pillar accented with soft ribbed rings that seamlessly links the lotus pedestal to the upper housing.
Light Chamber (Hibukuro): An hexagonal firebox adorned with detailed relief carvings on the sides—including animal/nature motifs and geometric lattice patterns—framed by squared light openings.
Roof (Kasa): An elegantly sweeping hexagonal roof section featuring rolled corner scrolls (Warabide) that direct rainwater outward while creating a sweeping silhouette.
Finial (Hōju): An ornamental onion-shaped lotus bud cap tapering into a delicate pointed top, crowning the entire structure.
Whether illuminated with a candle, small light source, or left as a dramatic sculptural centerpiece, this lantern brings timeless tranquility, architectural depth, and cultural authenticity to any outdoor living space. See less
