Ceramic bird figurine in a green celadon-style crackle glaze — plump songbird form with molded/carved wing feathers, glossy jade-green glaze with a fine allover crackle, hollow body, unglazed base ring with felt pads, no maker's mark. Contemporary decorative piece in the celadon tradition (described as "celadon-style" — NOT antique).

Dimensions: 8 inches long × 6.5 inches tall × 5 inches wide.
Condition: Excellent condition — no chips or cracks noted.

A note on this piece: celadon is one of the great glazes of Chinese ceramics, perfected at the Longquan kilns — its jade-green color comes from a trace of iron oxide transformed by reduction firing, when the kiln is starved of oxygen at the critical moment. The fine crackle webbing this surface is no flaw: in the Song-dynasty tradition of ge ware, a controlled crackle known as 'gold wire and iron thread' was prized as decoration in its own right, created by the glaze and clay body shrinking at slightly different rates as they cool. Watch how the glaze pools a deeper green inside the carved wing feathers and thins to pale celadon on the high points — that quiet variation is exactly what celadon lovers have chased for eight hundred years.
