An exceptional and highly collectible matching pair of authentic Antique American cast iron rabbit figures, circa 1900–1940. Originally produced by a premier early 20th-century foundry, these substantial, full-bodied rabbits function beautifully as striking indoor doorstops, hearth accents, or outdoor garden ornaments.
This pair showcases the exemplary hallmarks of early American sand-cast iron production. Both figures are meticulously formed using traditional two-piece hollow molds. Notably, they feature an elegant, seamless interlocking tab/pin assembly method entirely free of modern central screws, bolts, or welds. The interior cavities reveal hand-ground manufacturing lines along the flanges, confirming their historic provenance.
The rabbits retain an incredible, deeply layered antique white/cream oil finish that has aged beautifully over the last century. The surfaces exhibit an authentic, stable patina characterized by gorgeous fine crackling (crazing), natural weathering, and honest shelf-wear along the bottom rims. The facial features—including the striking, high-gloss black eyes—were entirely hand-painted at the foundry, giving each bunny a distinct, expressive character.
