A solid oak chest from the english arts & crafts period, early 20th century. Its inverted trapezoidal shape—wider at the top than at the bottom—gives it a distinctive and immediately recognizable character. It rests on four arched saber legs, connected by a low stretcher, lending lightness and stability to the whole.
the lid, with its scalloped profile, rounded corners, and peripheral molding, opens on two hinges of hammered, gilt brass. The interior is fully lined with a vibrant red fabric featuring subtle floral and geometric patterns, which is still well preserved.
the expressive and prominent oak grain, along with the even golden-brown patina, attests to the quality of the wood and the age of the piece. The overall condition is good, with natural wear to the patina and a few minor marks on the feet, consistent with its age.
it can be used as a toy chest, a storage chest at the foot of a bed, or as a decorative accent piece.
