Its rounded clear-crystal surfaces capture the animal's playful form from several angles.

Houston's Sea Otter design was introduced by Steuben in 1978 and appears in the company's 1987 retrospective catalog of his work. This particular sculpture is believed to have been manufactured in the 1980s; its exact production year has not been established.

Manufactured by Steuben Glass of Corning, New York, the sculpture is engraved "Steuben" on the underside. The signature is photographed.

This is an appealing piece for collectors of Steuben, James Houston designs, American crystal, and animal sculpture. The reclining form displays well independently or alongside other glass collectibles.
