A unique articulated wall lamp made in France during the 1950s and attributed to Robert Mathieu.
The piece combines an extendable, accordion-style arm made of black metal with brass details and a flexible neck that supports a conical shade of red lacquered metal. The mechanism allows the light source to be moved away from the wall and its position adjusted, while the adjustable neck facilitates more precise lighting.
The shade retains its original red lacquer and features small decorative star-shaped perforations. These openings create a delicate lighting effect when the lamp is on and add a distinctive ornamental touch.
The design fully reflects the innovative spirit of post-war French lighting, when functionality, mechanical articulation, and industrial materials began to be integrated into objects with a strong sculptural presence.
The combination of an extendable structure, brass, a perforated shade, and flexible adjustment shows clear affinities with the design language developed by Robert Mathieu and other important French lighting designers of the 1950s.
The piece has been professionally rewired.
It is in good condition, retaining its original lacquer and exhibiting patina, minor wear, and surface marks consistent with its age and use.
