Each shade is stretched with Vienna straw, the open hexagonal cane weave familiar from bentwood chair seats, over a base of bent rattan that curves down into a ring foot. They are newly rewired for the US with new sockets, and we’ll fit a plug for any other country free of charge. Height is measured with the shade on.

The design draws on the language Louis Sognot gave French rattan after the war. Sognot was a Paris decorator who had worked at Primavera, the Printemps design studio, and he turned rattan from a terrace material into a serious modern one, showing full rattan interiors at the Salon des Arts Ménagers. The original pins and small metal fixings at the joints are still visible, and the rattan shows light surface wear.
