This expressive bronze sculpture depicts Napoleon Bonaparte in his characteristic military pose. with his famous bicorn hat, long, flowing officer's coat, and hand placed across his chest, the figure embodies one of the most iconic figures in European history. The dark-patinated bronze rests on an elegant, round base of black marble. The signature "Gladenbeck," which refers to the long-established Berlin art foundry, is particularly noteworthy.
The standing figure impresses with its sculptural detail and the characteristic portrayal of Napoleon. While his left hand rests across his chest in the typical position, his right hand holds a short object reminiscent of a commander's baton. The carefully modeled facial features, the distinctive headdress, and the softly draped coat lend the sculpture a lifelike yet stately appearance. The dark brown bronze patina displays subtle, warm reflections and enhances the figure's three-dimensional effect.
The sculpture is in excellent condition. The bronze sculpture presents a beautiful, even patina with only minor surface wear consistent with its age. The black marble base is also in excellent condition.
The Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin is one of the most important German art foundries of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in 1851 by Hermann Gladenbeck, the company gained international acclaim, particularly for its high-quality bronze castings based on designs by renowned sculptors. Its output included monumental memorials, portrait busts, figurative sculptures, and decorative small bronzes. The exceptional craftsmanship made the Gladenbeck name famous far beyond Berlin. Today, historical works from the foundry are represented in museums, public collections, and the international art market.
The Napoleon sculpture offered here bears the signature "Gladenbeck" on the round bronze plinth. The black marble base provides an elegant contrast to the warm, dark brown patina and lends the figure a stately character. This piece has an attribution mark,
