The design duo Charles and Ray Eames were key figures in the development of American post-war design. Their guiding principle was always to create high-quality and aesthetically sophisticated designs. The use of innovative materials such as die-cast aluminum, fiberglass, and Naugahyde, combined with a consistent focus on ergonomic principles, was absolutely revolutionary for its time.
A prime example of this is the Aluminum Group, which the duo designed in 1958 and which is now considered one of the most important furniture designs of the 20th century. What makes this collection special is that the upholstery, stretched within the aluminum frame, gently flexes and adapts perfectly to the body.
with their extensive body of work, Charles and Ray Eames have influenced generations of architects and designers. In recognition of this lifetime achievement, Charles Eames was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1970 and to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1977.
