A dramatic Herend porcelain group: a Hungarian csikós, the horseman of the Great Plain, in white folk dress and wide-brimmed hat, bracing against the reins of a rearing dapple-grey horse. Modeled with real movement, the horse's tail and mane flying, on an oval stepped base with green grass. One of Herend's larger and more sculptural folk-life pieces.
Signed with the blue Herend mark to the underside. Mid-to-late 20th century.
Approx. 10" H x 9" W x 5" D. Excellent condition: no chips, cracks or repairs. From a Connecticut estate.
