A beautifully detailed ornithological print after the work of celebrated 18th-century naturalist and illustrator Eleazar Albin, depicting the Lapwing Plover (Vanellus) in a striking traditional natural history composition.
The elegant bird is distinguished by its dramatic swept-back crest, slender legs, and richly patterned plumage in shades of turquoise blue, burgundy, chestnut, and black. Standing upon a delicately illustrated grassy landscape, the bird displays the intricate engraved detailing and vibrant coloration characteristic of classical European ornithological illustrations.
The lower margin bears the inscription "E. Albin del." alongside the identification "Vanellus," the French "Pluvier," and the English "The Lapwing Plover." Plate number 74 appears in the upper right corner.
Presented beneath glass in a substantial dark wood-toned frame with subtle bronze-gold accents, the artwork offers a sophisticated decorative presence. Its rich coloration and timeless natural history subject make it an attractive addition to an English country interior, traditional library, study, or curated gallery wall.
A charming example of antique-inspired ornithological art, particularly appealing when displayed alongside other natural history bird illustrations.
