This is an elegant and dynamic vintage statue of a Chinese dragon (Long), crafted from copper and finished with a bright, full gilding.
Unlike the more common coiled dragon, this figure is depicted in a striding, almost feline posture, captured mid-stride with its front legs extended and its head held high. The dragon features a serpentine body covered in finely detailed scales, a spiky dorsal ridge running down its back, and a long, sweeping tail that curls upwards in a graceful "S" shape. Its head is detailed with horns, flowing whiskers, and an open mouth.
The smooth, minimalist styling of the body contrasts with the intricate details of the head and scales, giving the piece a refined, almost modern sculptural quality. This substantial piece is traditionally used as a "scholar's object" (wen'an baijian) for a desk, but it makes a striking statement piece on a console table, mantel, or bookshelf.

The gilded surface is largely intact, showing a natural patina and minor wear consistent with age and handling. There are some small spots of wear on the body, exposing the copper underneath, which is typical for gilt pieces. The piece sits flat and is structurally sound. Please refer to all photos for detailed condition. less
