Monumental, elegant, and rare.

materials: walnut and mahogany (solid and veneered), their grain enhanced by thorough sanding. The woods reveal warm, deep tones, from honey to copper.

features: the upper section comprises three glass-fronted display cabinets, adorned with applied scrollwork and rosettes instead of the usual muntins: a rare detail that underscores the piece's originality. Engaged columns punctuate the front. In the lower section, four doors with pointed arch panels, inspired by neo-gothic design, conceal generous storage with shelves and drawers. The interior shelves are original. The upper section can be disassembled into four parts (three display cabinets and the cornice); the base is a single piece.

restoration: this antique english bookcase has been completely sanded by hand on the exterior to remove its tired, glossy varnish. It was carefully washed and then waxed, giving it a soft, natural appearance. Inside, it was fully treated with linseed oil and then polished.

condition: this bookcase is in superb condition. All doors lock; three keys are included. Note: a few small chips in the veneer are visible on the baseboard and at the corners of the top, but they are discreet. Most of the glass panes are original and retain the characteristic bubbles of antique glass. However, some panes have been replaced at some point in its life.
