The table consists of three fundamental geometric forms: a cube, a cylinder and a sphere, supporting a substantial rectangular glass tabletop. This unconventional composition transforms a functional piece of furniture into a sculptural object, reflecting the Vignellis' exploration of simplicity, proportion and materiality.

The transparent glass surface reveals the individual travertine elements beneath, emphasising their contrasting silhouettes and the natural character of the travertine. Its warm beige tones, subtle variations and characteristic porous texture introduce an organic element to the otherwise precise design.

The contrast between the solid stone supports and the transparency of the glass creates an interesting visual effect, allowing the table to interact with its surroundings while revealing different perspectives from every angle.

A celebrated example of late 1970s Italian design, the Metafora combines architectural clarity with a playful approach to form and function. Its restrained material palette and sculptural presence make it a distinctive addition to both contemporary interiors and curated design collections.
