Signed colour lithograph by Swedish artist Max Gregor Carlsson (1914–1996), numbered 45/250.
The composition presents an architectural semi-abstraction in black, turquoise-blue and warm paper tones. Arched openings, windows and structural planes are compressed into an ambiguous interior space, placing the work somewhere between recognisable architecture and abstraction.
Carlsson was born in Malmö in 1914 and studied at Skånska Målarskolan before travelling to Paris, where biographical sources record study with André Lhote in 1953.
During the 1950s and 1960s Carlsson exhibited widely in Sweden, including in Malmö, Stockholm and Ystad. In 1965 he received a scholarship from Skånes Konstförening.
A period Swedish obituary clipping dated September 1996 remains attached to the reverse. It records Carlsson’s Malmö training, his Paris period with André Lhote, his gradual movement from subjects such as stairways and landscapes toward increasingly abstract compositions, and his place within Malmö’s artistic community.
The same period source records his work in the collections of Malmö Museum and Eskilstuna Konstmuseum.
The present lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 45/250.
