A narrow band of intense yellow sits above a broad blue-grey sea, while the shoreline below is reduced to a small group of essential forms: two fishermen, a dark boat drawn onto the shore, a blue building, fishing gear and a further vessel on the water.
Jensen avoids conventional descriptive realism. The sea is constructed from repeated horizontal marks, the figures are reduced almost to signs, and the boats become strong curved forms held together by dark outlines. The result remains clearly figurative while moving close to abstraction in several passages.
The work is signed in pencil at the lower right and numbered 209/275 at the lower left.
Danish art archive Kunstklubben records Else Jensen as a painter born in 1918 and documents further signed and numbered lithographs by the artist. Her graphic work is characterised by disciplined yet loose drawing and a strong use of colour.
Another impression of this exact composition was catalogued by Helsingborgs Auktionskammare under the descriptive title “Fiskargubbar” (“Fishermen”). As no confirmed artist-given title has been established, Mind Blown Gallery uses the descriptive title “Coastal Scene with Fishermen and Boats.”
