Original signed and numbered color lithograph by French artist Erik Levesque, born in 1959. Levesque belongs to a generation of French artists whose work developed between late modernism and a freer, more gestural approach to painting and printmaking. from 1986 to 1988 he was a resident artist at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, an important French cultural institution and artists’ residency. His practice encompasses painting and graphic work, with a visual language combining spontaneous mark-making, strong fields of colour and more structured elements moving between abstraction and figuration.
This particular work is a strong example of that balance. The composition is built around saturated emerald green, coral, black, ochre and warm cream, with dense gestural passages interrupted by more ordered, almost architectural forms. Rather than presenting a single literal scene, the image allows fragments, silhouettes and linear structures to overlap and remain partially unresolved, creating a layered and energetic surface.
The contrast between the dark graphic elements and the brighter fields of green and coral gives the composition considerable visual depth. from a distance, the work reads as a bold abstract image; viewed more closely, smaller marks, textures and suggestive figurative elements become apparent. This ambiguity between abstraction and recognisable form is central to the character of the piece.
The lithograph is hand-signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right and numbered 135/195 at the lower left, confirming its place within a limited edition. It dates from the late 20th century.
Presented under glazing in a slim light-painted vintage frame, the work retains a distinctly European late-20th-century character. The restrained framing allows the saturated palette and expressive surface of the lithograph to remain the dominant visual element. This piece has an attribution mark,
