It was his personal collection and each one is the best of the best. This one has been carved out of one piece of beautiful dark green jade.

Interesting choice of a pig as the subject matter of a jade piece. Seems to me to remind us that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Folklore and mythology have many interesting stories and beliefs about the pig. The Chinese zodiac includes the pig as the twelfth animal sign, each representing a specific year in a twelve-year cycle. The pig, or “Zhu,” is associated with affluence and a joyful disposition. People born in the Year of the Pig are believed to be generous, honest and compassionate. They are thought to be reliable and trustworthy.
