The cabinet is beautifully veneered throughout in richly figured burr walnut, with contrasting banding and exceptionally attractive book-matched figuring across the top, doors and drawer fronts. The breakfront arrangement incorporates four drawers to either side of a pair of central panelled cupboard doors, all fitted with elegant brass swan-neck handles and decorative floral backplates This is considerably more sophisticated than a conventional sideboard and was designed specifically for the dining room and entertaining. A discreet full-width pull-out serving slide is concealed immediately beneath the central top, providing additional surface area for serving drinks, decanters or food, while opening the central cupboard reveals a further concealed divided cutlery drawer above generous storage space. These thoughtful details are characteristic of Theodore Alexander's high-quality traditional cabinet furniture. Brights of Nettlebed became the UK distributor for Theodore Alexander's celebrated collections, including the Althorp Living History Collection, comprising furniture inspired by and reproduced from pieces at the Spencer family's historic Althorp estate. The sideboard is presented in good vintage condition with the expected light marks, scratches and signs of use to the polished surfaces as photographed. The quality of the burr walnut is particularly impressive, and combined with the substantial construction, abundant storage, concealed cutlery compartment and ingenious serving slide, this is both an exceptionally handsome and genuinely practical piece of luxury English-style dining furniture.
